Would a car engine run on paint thinners? (To potentially save a lot of money on petrol).?

No, paint thinner isn't suitable for a car engine - and I think litre for litre it's not much cheaper than petrol anyway (by the time the government realise what you are doing and start charging duty!!)Would a car engine run on paint thinners? (To potentially save a lot of money on petrol).?
the thinners is a liquid that can be burned such as the guy using paint laquer. both WILL give engine damage and effect performance but I guess the guy using laquer didnt put much in and it will be diluted with the remaining fuel in the tank anyway.

These fuels? burn with a much higher temperature and have a lower calorific output so cannot give out as much heat energy per litre in usable power.

the high temperatures can cause hot spots in a cylinder head combustion chamber causing misfiring and 'pinking'

it can cause melting of pistons and engine seizure.

I know one man who ran on old and new chip oil , saved a small fortune on fuel for many weeks.. then had to get a new van after his engine seized up.

manufacturers go to a lot of testing and cost checking engines will work with certain fuels.

if it was so easy to use an alternative don't you think car magazines etc would be informing us about them?

this will be a very expensive mistake.

you can check? if you treally want ? by running your car low or out of fuel.. put in a gallon (even parriffin will burn) and run around until it is nearly gone . try turning engine off! I have know instances where it kept firing on hot carbon and valves causing it to run on with the ignition OFF.

(had to be stalled to stop it)

please dont try and run a car cheaply it never works in eth long run. best advise.. get a cheaper car to run.Would a car engine run on paint thinners? (To potentially save a lot of money on petrol).?
Even if the engine will run on it, you would need to be sure there are no tax/policemen following you, as almost all alternative fuels smell different, and if you are caught using a fuel on the road that has not been subject to the correct taxation, they can impound your vehicle.
paint thinner now, laqueor thinner yes as i have used for years when customer cars have run out of gas in our collision repair shop.it has no effect on performance, and will not damage the engine, burns cleaner, but costs the same as gass right now so there is no advantage
i think that paint thinner and achohle burn at a higher temp. so you can do it but you may bend something (crackshaft) or start to melt your pistons and valves.
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, SAVING MONEY ON ANOTHER SOURCE OF FUEL OR BUYING A NEW ENGINE BECAUSE YOU DID'NT USE THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED FUEL.
alcohol can be added to petrol - but it costs more than petrol (just). Cooking oil can be added to diesel - but can clog the injectors. Stick with the genuine stuff. Paint thinners won't work.
WHEN (not if) Your car engine blows up you will be please you TRIED to save a couple of quid.

Please DON'T be a plonker, It does not suit you.
Any alternative fuel used has to be declared. If You don't declare it, You'll be f*cked at the next Customs %26amp; Excise road check.
Its possible, but what kind of ';paint thinners'; are cheaper than gasoline?
prat!
1] No

2] You won't be making any savings
we'll know after you try
